CHEHALIS, Wash. -- A man on Arizonas "Most Wanted" list has been caught near Chehalis.

State Trooper Michael D. Kesler says 39-year-old Larry A. Hayes gave a false Washington driver's license when he was stopped early Friday for speeding. He was clocked at 74 mph in a 50 mph zone in a Mercedes on southbound Interstate 5.

Kesler says Hayes claimed to be David Wayne Matthews. He was jailed when that could not be confirmed, and fingerprints revealed his true identity on Saturday.

A passenger, 24-year-old Kyndale Ogara of Tacoma, was arrested on a forgery warrant from Pierce County.

Hayes had been sought in more than 900 cases of possession of stolen property, identity theft and fraud-related crimes - including 800 in Pierce County.

Man Held After 2 Florida Deputies Killed

According to a police report, responding deputies spotted the 1990 gold Toyota Camry traveling northbound on Highway 715 and gave chase, WPBF-TV in Palm Beach Gardens reported.

More than 75 deputies were searching nearby sugarcane fields for the two suspects.

Investigators tracked skid marks and determined the stolen car went into a canal near Pahokee, about 45 miles west of West Palm Beach.

It's not clear if the man in custody is one of the two suspects officers had been searching for.

The identities of the two deputy sheriffs were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The deputies are the latest South Florida law enforcement victims this year.

Broward Deputy Paul Rein was killed earlier this month while transporting a suspect to court.

Assemblymen Fight Thruway Toll Hike

Three area assemblymen are holding a hearing Monday morning to fight the proposed New York State Thruway toll hike.

Assemblymen Brian Kolb, Robert Oaks, and Joe Errigo are sponsoring the meeting. It takes place inside the Monroe County Legislative Chambers starting at 10:00am. The chambers are located in the Monroe County Office Building on East Main Street in downtown Rochester. The hearing runs through noon.

If approved, the thruway toll hike would raise cash tolls five percent in 2009 and another five percent in 2010. Those proposed hikes are in addition to a ten percent increase already approved. That hike goes into effect next month.

Leaders from AAA are expected to testify at the hearing. The assemblymen hope that testimony will show how a toll hike would have a negative impact on drivers and businesses.

Paranoia aside, Sheriff Joe Arpaio and County Attorney Andrew Thomas ...

My friend Chad introduced me to Violent J and 2 Dope while we cruised Gratiot Avenue in the summer of '94. This miles-long stretch of road cuts through what was once East Detroit but is now called Eastpointe. The teenagers who cruised it during this period were made up of that wanna-be urban type that sported baggy pants and spent whatever money they made working at Kmart on booming speakers for their lamely pimped-out Geo Metros. Oh, and listening to ICP.

It's important to understand the urban-obsessed, white suburban world of lower-middle-class kids that reacted the way I did to the same shimmering blue cassette that Chad slipped into his car's tape player out on Gratiot that night. ICP's debut, Carnival of Carnage, was rap, which made it cool, we thought. But it was also: A) by two white dudes who B) talked about such absurd, horror-obsessed subject matter that nobody felt like poseurs for listening to the music (which is, I imagine, how every suburban white kid felt listening to NWA).

Possible Lowcountry Scam

On December 3, 2007, a male student reported to Public Safety that on or around November 27, 2007, he may have fallen prey to a scam to collect his personal information.

The student stated that he was approached by a white female (approximately 34 years old, blonde hair, approximately 5'7"/140 lbs. wearing a black fleece sweater, jeans and black boots) inside Bldg. 410 at the Main Campus. The female was handing out pieces of paper that were the size of a business card. The paper appeared to be a coupon that entitled the bearer to a free lunch at the Subway located at 7400 Rivers Ave. The coupon stated that "student ID was required."

The student went to the Subway where he saw 3 males, who appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent, with laptop computers.
