The lawsuit brought an award of $156 million to the parents of the teenaged terror victim, David Boim. Does anyone seriously think that the prosecution did not present strong enough evidence for conviction in the criminal case, but in the civil casewith less evidence than the government possessedthe civil attorneys did convince jurors of the connection between HLF and Hamas? Some are pointing to old evidence as the reason prosecutors were unable to convince the jury to convict in the HLF case. 8 What no one seems to be talking about is why it took so long to make the evidence public and to bring HLF to trial. Baby tax needed to save planet, claims expert
Far from showering financial booty on new mothers and thereby rewarding greenhouse-unfriendly behaviour a baby levy in the form of a carbon tax should apply in line with the polluter pays principle," he said. Professor Walters suggested a baby levy of $5000 should be charged at birth and a tax of up to $800 a year paid annually for the life of the child. He said the tax was designed to fund the planting of trees to offset annual carbon dioxide emissions, estimated to be about 17 metric tons for the average Australian. That equates to the planting of 4 hectares of trees for each baby born. "Every newborn baby in Australia represents a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions for an average of 80 years, not simply by breathing, but by the profligate consumption of resources typical of our society," Professor Walters wrote.
